all the ladies love a bit of headman
balearica - headman (feat matt safer) (2006)i just got a copy of headman's new record, entitled 'on', due out january 2006. regular readers may recall that one of my fave remixes of ever is the headman vocal remix of 'matinee' - so beloved for its subtle shine. needless to say i panted a bit when i heard that there would be a full record out. posted above is a song called 'balearica' featuring vocals by matt safer of the rapture. it's sort of been a while since i've heard anything from them, other than the hush hush remixes (speaking of which i think i've lost a hush hush remix of who made who on my computer somewhere. fuck). i believe they played some shows in l.a. recently? anyway, there's a stone roses-y vox interpolation thing going on here, as well as that nice lazer beamy synth. i also like the songs with vocals by someone named "tara". funniest is the final track featuring ben rymer and erol alkan on vox, doing a headman shoutout ("erol likes a bit of headman/ tiga likes A LOT of headman/ trevor jackson loves a bit of headman/ the germans they don't like their headman/ the english they love their headman/ THE SWISS DON'T GET NO HEAD ... MAN"). god i'm so puerile.
karen, suckin it back.

Holy shit that 'Roses-esque "gotta get down down down down down" thing is hilarious. I've been way back into Headman lately.
Expect new Rapture sorta soon :)
yeah, paris gets alot of hype but this whole german/ dutch/ swiss/ faction (i suppose i'm mostly referring to gomma and get physical) are also producing some really good songs, and doing good work on the remix front too. it's a little less "woah! woAH!! WOAH!!!". know what i mean?
and i feel like i saw the rapture for the first time an eternity ago. there were a bunch of songs i really liked off of echoes so i'm interested to hear what their new material will sound like, where they've taken it. are they still recording for dfa greg?
"I've been way back into Headman lately" = "greg can't get enough of head, man"
i haven't really liked most of the gomma / munk / headman / manhead / whatever stuff but this song is cool
it's better than "warning siren," too ...
I think the Rapture is not with DFA anymore but i'm not positive about that
Dude, I can't even get out of my office lately, never mind get head. Fuck.
Anyway, The Rapture were recording demos with Run-Roc most recently. No word on who they will release the next record with... I'll do some asking ;).
cool blog! bLoG 4 EvA! represent.
Matt has done two recent collaborations - one with Tiefschwarz, and one with Kaos. Rapture and DFA split their ways... :( and I'm afraid they're gonna be quite shit now. The last track's lyrics are silly and funny as hell. Kinda reminds me of Soulwax's Teachers cover, or Losing My Edge or Mylo's Destroy Rock N Roll.
May I ask why the new Rapture will inherently suck? I've heard nothing but positive reviews of their recent live shows...
i've only heard the 'upstart' b/w 'ronghands dub' 12 but really looking forward to hearing the full length!
thanks for the new track...
have they played any new tracks? The Rapture is one of my favourite bands, but you have to admit that DFA has done miracles with them. They improved their sound a lot. I dunno if they're gonna really suck, but I can't think of a producer that suits them, The Sub-Pop material they released is not even comparable with Echoes, for example.
... yeah but that stuff was also made soo long ago. like 1999 - 2001? i'm sure they've also learned a bunch of stuff that will add something to their development. 5 - 7 years is a long time to pick up new techniques and come up with ideas ... well, one hopes anyway ;)
Tal -- their more recent producer: http://www.run-roc.com
... and yes, they are playing new material. Their most recent gig in New York went really well, according to (the hard to please) Nick Sylvester from Village Voice/Pitchfork.
