computer love
as irritating as myspace is, i've come to adore it for the sheer amount of music it has made available to me. i love that smaller artists can build these spaces themselves, and that they determine what they want us to hear. not their record companies, their pr, or crappy international chains of distribution. we just have to follow the links, and voila, something great is discovered every day.
return of the raw - trippy disco (2006)
robot strut - trippy disco (2006)
trippy disco is one such act, hailing from glasgow, i dunno if i would've ever heard these songs if not for my trusty cable internet connection. citing influences like alexander robotnick and claudio simonetti i knew i was in the right place. not only does the italo influence figure prominently, but also early techno and acid house. i'll probably be giving one of these play at the club tonite. 128 bitrate be damned! ack!
other finds ...
* surprised to see that quiet village has made 3 tracks available for download, considering that their label (whatever we want) is rumored to be quite tight about such things. 'pillowtalk' and 'too high to move' have circulated previously, and 'circus of horror' is soundtrack funk schlock madness. grab em while you can.
* a couple of disco re-edits are available for download over at discopia's myspace. nice!
toronto happenings (apparently 'shit' related) ...
* shack up tonite (thursday may 25th) welcomes dave b of shit la merde
* shit robot is djing here with mstrkrft, mikey apples and nav (on saturday, june 10th) for a late nite jam. yowza. so looking forward to that.
links ...
* check out some vancouver blogs: el popo (he's got that new annie track) and paul devro (a nice dj who i met briefly when i was there a couple of years ago).
* other, other shit ... the moment i've been waiting for ... 'dazed and confused', criterion edition. YES

I am going to try to make it tonight. Lots of experiments in the lab to finish and a bad case of shyness. I will muster up the courage to thank you for the great blog in person. Good luck.
just get drunk. everything is easier that way. just make sure you don't go back to the lab afterwards. shack up will not be blamed for any chemical accidents.
friend don't let friends drink and pipette! i promise no drunken science. I'll find the courage - liquid or otherwise.
cheers
It was good to have a chance to see you play. You are a far better DJ than you give yourself credit. Very good slektor. Sorry I couldn't stay longer but shyness in a big crowd is arecipe for disaster. Thanks again.
well thanks ian. i've taken it upon myself to take what i'm doing a bit more seriously - and i'm practising!
I though your early stuff was really great - nice weird synth rock disco. it all went together very well and made sense in the way DJ sets can make sense. Because I am a mediocre DJ I tend to get over excited and push to bigger sounding stuff too quickly with sharper transitions, although mixed, that tend not to make a consistent flow. It's a bad habit that usually invloves too much to drink and an anxious personality. I am working on it. You have a very supportive crowd that likes what your doing so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you guys could get away with murder on the turntables and have them lapping it up.
"Return of the Raw" - pretty hot, I love the vocals
nice find ...
thanks for the link Jaime; I've been lazy. I still can't stop listening to that 'My Time' Roberto Cacciapaglia track you posted.
no problem. i've been lazy too. i still go thru phases where i listen to 'my time' non stop. and i first heard it like, a few years ago. glad to provide that kind of service though. tha's what i'm here for!
